It might be that the best “street style tacos” I’ve had in Addison actually come from a family owned chain from Austin.
ZuZu Handmade Mexican Food might have started in Austin but has since expanded throughout the Dallas metroplex. And I’m so glad they did. Addison is filled with Mexican chain restaurants: Gloria’s, Taco Diner, Mi Cocina, La Ventana, On the Border, Chuy’s and so on. But none of them hit the spot with tacos. Don’t get me wrong, the tacos at some of these are just fine and are even close to authentic street tacos, but there’s something missing.
Enter Zuzu. I went here on a whim craving tacos. I was in the area and tired of all the other chains. I had never even heard of Zuzu. It’s a simple “order at the bar” restaurant. It’s quick and easy. I ordered a steak taco, a chicken taco, and chips with guacamole. All of it was delicious. If you want more than tacos, there’s a full menu to choose from.
Is it the same as the mom and pop taquerias? No, but it’s as close as I’ve gotten in Addison.
