Here comes a long weekend. Memorial Day is Monday and before I tell you about the awesome events this weekend, I want to give you a bit of info on Memorial Day itself.
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May, honoring the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. Amidst the fun and enjoyment of the weekend maybe take a moment of silence in honor of those who died for the freedoms we hold dear. I understand that our country is at odds right now and sometimes seems a little (or more than a little) hopeless. But please don’t take for granted the lives that were sacrificed for our country and rights.
I’ll get off my soapbox now to tell you that if you don’t already have a full weekend, it’s about to be. Sunday is one busy day. Have a great weekend, be safe, and don’t forget the sunblock.
