Out-of-Towner: Annies Cafe

October 24, 2017

For #TravelTuesday, I wanted to share Annies Cafe. Luckily, you don’t need a plane ticket to visit. Annies is off of Congress Ave in Austin.

Only open for breakfast and lunch, Annies focuses on quality food and wonderful coffee drinks. Breakfast ends and lunch starts at 11. If you come in during that magical hour, you are lucky enough to order beignets and salmon at the same time (if you want).

I did order the beignets, which were absolutely delicious. They were doughier than others I’ve had in the past but not to the point of chewy. Made hot and fresh when you order. It’s a must now when in downtown Austin.

As for the main course, I ordered the fried egg sandwich. The sandwich was on buttered toast that balanced the texture of the egg with a nice crunch. It came with home fried potatoes. (I’m a huge fan of anything potato but home fried is my favorite.) About a few bites in, I realized this was an “eyes are bigger than my stomach” morning.

I left feeling stuffed but satisfied. It was worth every bite. An upside to being in downtown Austin is the walkability, so you can burn all that food off. If you are taking a mini road trip, I highly recommend stopping in to Annies, even if it’s just for a cafe au lait.
