Celebrate the Not-So-Humble Doughnut
Today is National Doughnut Day, so naturally, we’re going to talk doughnuts. There has been a surge of specialty doughnuts throughout Dallas and the other major cities in the US.
I’m still a fan of the traditional donut stores that simply say “donuts” and might give you a dozen donut holes just for buying enough glazed donuts. But there are a few specialty places worth visiting and paying extra for, such as Top Pot.
Top Pot Doughnuts on Hillcrest not only serves giant or specialized donuts but kills it with the coffee too. They have other locations in the Dallas area; Hillcrest just happens to be my go-to.
As you can see, I’ve used the fork and knife to show the size of the giant cinnamon sugar doughnut. And it was worth every carb loaded bite. But just as good, was their coffee. Coffee and doughnuts go together. You can’t have one without the other.
Luckily, these new doughnut shops recognize this and do more than brew Folgers and leave it in a large canteen.
Top Pot has freshly brewed coffee, “hand-forged” doughnuts, and just for Texas, the insanely sized $5 “Texas Doughnut”. (It’s practically a cake.)
Visit any of their Dallas-area locations to celebrate National Doughnut Day.
